I see that in its infinite wisdom Bournemouth Borough Council has purchased three useless gritting lorries.

Some years ago I was talking to a driver who was delivering gritters from the makers.

He said that Bournemouth was one of the few councils which bought gritters off the shelf. Has no one heard of demountable bodies?

The three gritters will be used for three or four months of the year and then will sit idle covered in gallons of Waxoyl for seven or eight months doing nothing.

To convert to a rear end tipper or a three way tipper would take approximately 10 minutes and could be used 365 days a year earning its keep.

Permanently attached bodied vehicles will be sold off in three or four years with hardly any mileage on the clock, thoroughly useless, with everything corroded with salt, and only worth a couple of pounds.

Think about it Bournemouth council. Is this saving money? I think not.
