I could not disagree more with Dan Walter.
War memorials do not glorify war – they are a stark and necessary reminder of the futility of war.
The brave pilots and crews of RAF Bomber Command deserve to be remembered for their sacrifice and courage at a time when this country and the free world were fighting for survival.
If it had not been for such men we might well now be living in a Fascist state and waking up to the chilling echo of jackbooted Nazis in our streets every morning. The Bomber Command Memorial will not glorify war but it will deservedly honour the memory of the thousands of brave young men who sacrificed their lives to keep this country free.
And if it offends the German, so be it.
They too should never be allowed to forget the horrors inflicted upon the world by their fathers and grandfathers.
