The future of energy supply and conservation in the UK is one that appears regularly in heavyweight daily newspapers and such publications as the Economist.

In the Echo however, all we really see is letters and articles castigating wind turbines as safety hazards, wastes of money and the reasons why some local residents cannot sleep at night.

Whatever happens in the future the UK will need a mixed and balanced portfolio of energy sources.

Some will no doubt be fossil-fueled, but others will need to be from renewable sources.

Whether anyone wants to accept it, wind turbines and photovoltaic solar are fast and easy to set up and get running quickly.

Nuclear power stations come with attendant risks which need discussing, our own supplies of oil and gas are minimal nowadays and mean losing energy security, while coal is a nightmare.

It would be a real service if the Echo were to start informing its readership of what the situation is and what the solutions are likely to be.

Allow your readership to make their minds up from fact and not the vented spleen of opinion.
