JOHN BAXENDALE (Have Your Say, March 8) is monumentally misleading in his letter.
Wimborne has two recreation grounds owned and operated by the town council.
One is about four times the size of Hanham’s ground and the other twice as large.
Both ends of the town are therefore well provided with recreational space.
In addition, the most centrally-placed Minster Green is made available at all times for gentle recreation.
Further afield there is a pleasant riverside walk beside the Stour at Leigh Park.
Furthermore, when development work is completed, something of the order of half of Hanham’s ground will be converted to a public riverside park open to all.
I would also remind Mr Baxendale that it is misleading to maintain that Mr Atlay registered the farmer cricket ground as a town or village green.
What he actually did was to submit an application for the ground to be so registered, which is not the same thing.
I suggest that it would be best if Mr Baxendale reserved his energy to forward improvements in his parish and leave the citizens of Wimborne to make up their minds about what they need for their town.
