So the selfish element of residents look set to have their way over the Poole Town FC plans for Branksome Rec (Scrap plan, advises officer, Daily Echo, November 26).

As the former chairman of the Friends Of Branksome Rec, may I ask where all of the alleged 2,700 petitioners were when we worked our behinds off arranging fun days, easter-egg hunts, coffee mornings etc in an attempt to raise funds to carry out at least some of the improvements required – particularly to bring the pavilion up to scratch?

I can’t ever recall seeing anywhere near that number of people at any time on the rec!

The suggested improvements included in Poole Town’s plans are beyond the wildest dreams of anyone who has the interests of the wider community at heart.

Does Branksome Rec Action Group seriously believe that the improvements needed, and planned by the football club, are achievable without outside financial input? Dream on!

Still, they will all be able to sleep soundly in the knowledge that what they appear see as an extension of their front gardens will carry on falling further into disrepair until it becomes totally unusable by anyone.

I should add that I am most certainly not a soccer fan, but would have quite happily put up with the club’s plans given the other tremendous improvements that they would have brought.

I sincerely hope Cllr Phil Eades and his friends are satisfied!
