HAVING read the letter from Christine Oliver (Pitch battle on a sticky wicket, Have Your Say November 16), I felt compelled to write and congratulate her on summing everything up so succinctly.

I am a former long term resident of Wimborne, now residing in St. Leonards, and am a regular visitor to Wimborne Minster.

I wholeheartedly support the building of a Waitrose supermarket in the town which, without such a facility, will slowly be overtaken by the likes of Ferndown and Ringwood and will indeed become a ghost town.

The fact that what was once an area used only by the cricketing fraternity will in due course become an area for all visitors to the town to enjoy can only be a good thing, and it is a proven fact that wherever Waitrose is located things not only improve in the vicinity for other traders but, being such a caring company, they bring a lot of additional benefits to the town such as the planting of trees and shrubs and the maintenance of the park area. All of this can only be of tremendous benefit to this beautiful market town.
