I felt I had to reply to Ms Christine Oliver’s letter (Have Your Say, November 16).

I am mystified by her attitude towards the recent campaigners’ action group.

For 25 years she has looked out of her front window to view part of Wimborne’s history – the cricket field.

What view has she got now? Eight foot high white hoardings inviting the local graffiti artists to do their bit. What view will she have by the end of 2010? It will almost certainly devalue her property.

I too lived in Park Lane, during the seventies, at the Cricketers Arms when my father was landlord. Many Sunday afternoons, and summer evenings, were spend by numerous people watching the local cricket matches.

The area was also open for public use so the answer to Mrs Oliver’s question is that padlocked gates can be open with a key. A supermarket is there to stay. I wonder whether the pub will change its name to The Waitrose Arms?

Mrs Oliver is right in saying Wimborne will be a ghost town but not in the way she means. I wonder how long it will be before the small traders have to close because Waitrose have taken their custom?
