May I please take this opportunity through the letters page of our local paper to express, on behalf of Citizens Advice Bournemouth and the Mayor’s charities, our gratitude to all those who attended and took part in the Beach Festival which was held on the beach at Boscombe last Saturday.

It was so encouraging to see so many people have fun and at the same time make a contribution towards the work of the charities our Mayor has chosen, of which Bournemouth Citizens Advice Bureau is one.

The others are the Community Foundation, Tenovus and Don’t Walk Away.

The weather of course did help! The bureau hopes to plan a similar event in 2010 when we’ll be celebrating our 70th birthday and we hope that even more people will be able to take part.

As a local charity, in addition to the statutory funding we receive, including that from Bournemouth Borough Council, we value all the financial support which people give us. Even in these difficult days, it pleases me that people still feel able to give to charities.

Any contributions go towards helping the many clients who approach us for advice.

P Martin Broad, chief executive, Bournemouth Citizens Advice Bureau
