Regarding the article about the planning permission for Homefield School (Daily Echo, August 3), Burton parish council need to stop being so stupid and shortsighted in fighting the plans for the site to be developed into a care home.

Both my husband and I worked at the school.

Our three children also attended the school as pupils.

Turning the school into a care home is a fantastic idea.

The whole ethos of the school was one of care and everyone looking after each other.

This would be a chance for this to continue, albeit in another way. The school building is falling apart and is crying out to be restored and reused.

The argument about traffic is complete nonsense. What about the number of cars that came and went at the start and end of the school day? I don’t remember Judy Jamieson complaining then!

If you turned the site into a housing estate the traffic would be enormous.

If they keep finding fault then they may find they get something they like even less.
