I WAS rather dismayed to read the letter from reader J Lee (July 16), with complaints about our bin men.
These gents do a filthy and thankless, and very heavy job, often in considerable danger from the current road user, without complaint. On the rare occasions we meet them (they start early) they are unfailingly cheerful and polite.
I realise there are many other folks who have jobs that are hardly “utterly butterly”, ie sewage workers, nurses, bus drivers etc. The bin men are not alone.
Maybe J Lee would care to take a bin man’s duties for a day or two? With due respect to age or infirmity etc of course.
Gladly I would donate a packet of paracetamol tablets to relieve the inevitable aches and pains of arms, legs and neck, resulting from the work. With thanks to the bin men.
