West Moors Memorial Hall will this year be celebrating its 80th birthday.

The hall is held under a deed as a public charitable trust for the social and recreational use of all the inhabitants of West Moors and the immediate vicinity.

Over the years improvements have been made to the hall and its immediate facilities to accommodate an ever-growing demand for the use of all the facilities. It’s booked up on a daily basis, way in advance at times. Good job the parking is adequate and plentiful!

But the biggest proportion of the car parking area could be lost if the present proposals being looked into at present go ahead.

The trustees have been approached with a proposal to purchase the present car park to build a state-of-the-art doctors’ surgery on it.

Not only would it enclose almost the entire area seen from the road, but it would result in very few parking spaces for the use of visitors.

The issue here is not so much the new surgery, but the loss of an area of car parking that is very heavily used at times.
