As reported in Thursday’s Echo I am recommending to my cabinet colleagues that the decision to allow Poole Town Football Club to build a stadium on Branksome Rec be deferred to Council.
This follows a massive reaction from both the opponents and proponents of the scheme and it is in respect to all sides of this argument that it needs to be discussed at council level.
Personally, I support this proposal. The social and community benefits to all of Poole from the scheme are of such magnitude as to persuade me that this is the best way to proceed.
If passed at council, it will still require the democratic checks and balances of the planning committee, financial due diligence, and clear protection of a lease that will recognise the interests of the people of Poole.
Cllr Peter F Adams, portfolio holder, culture and leisure, Borough of Poole
