TRANSDEV Yellow Buses (TYB) strongly refutes any suggestion of homophobia as alleged by your unnamed correspondent (‘Bus firm raining on gay parade’, Have Your say, May 27.) Bournemouth council contacted TYB to request views on closing Gervis Place. This followed approaches to the council by two unnamed organisations.

Gervis Place is a main trunk route and currently there is no feasible alternative for accessing the town centre which does not cause disruption and unnecessary delays to bus services. On these grounds we opposed any plan to close Gervis Place.

The organisers of Bourne Free, one of the unnamed groups, have now been in touch with TYB directly.

We have talked through the issue and, although we are still concerned, we are prepared to accept their assurances that disruption in Gervis Place will be kept to an absolute minimum. In view of this, TYB is no longer objecting to the closure of Gervis Place.

Transdev Yellow Buses has been pleased to support previous Bourne Free events and has had a promotional stand on the last two occasions.

Any suggestion of homophobia is not only untrue but also an unjustified slur on TYB and our hard-working staff.
