WITH deepest respect to Rev Hugh Maddox’ letter of May 21, the ordinary man in the street has a right to be angry over the expense claims made by MPs.
They are tax payers and many of them have lost their jobs, pensions and homes.
He says most of us have at some time in our life have tried to avoid paying tax, paid cash for work done, avoided paying full fare on a bus or train.
But the cases he sites compare with people who have made claims for thousands of pounds year upon year.
He adds: “Most MPs are honest, sincere and hard working”.
I would suggest we say some MPs are – and I sincerely hope that one of them will become the Speaker of the House of Commons.
