AS chairman of the leisure services committee under the Liberal Democrat-controlled Poole council responsible for Poole Town FC having to leave Poole Stadium in 1995, I fear that the problems heaped upon the club by the decision taken at that time are now being compounded by the Liberal Democrat opposition to the Branksome recreation ground proposals being put forward.

Hindsight teaches us much, but clearly the scheme put forward by the club is packed with community benefits that will enhance the enjoyment of the Rec for so many people, not least the youth of the area, and of course people with disabilities.

Obviously the football club will benefit, but let us not forget that they would be the providers of the improvements.

We should also not forget the credit that the club has brought to Poole by its achievements in recent times through the dedication of the directors, coaching staff and the players.

Cllr Eades, a local member, may wish to think very carefully about his opposition to the proposals which would go some way towards righting the wrongs of the past decisions made by the Liberal Democrats of the day.
