I am writing in response to the review with regard to future school provision in the Purbeck area.
The proposal for this area includes moving to a two-tier system, ie closing Swanage Middle School.
I entirely reject this proposal.
I think Swanage Middle School provides an excellent learning environment between the ages of nine and 13.
The children are very happy there, as reflected in their recent Ofsted report, and I think with Mr Pratten in charge this school will go from strength to strength.
Once the children reach year eight at age 13, I think they are ready for the move to a much larger school and also ready for the long journey by bus.
Figures show that 11 and 12-year-olds who attend middle schools do much better academically than those who go to secondary schools.
I think that the children of Swanage deserve to be educated in their home town until they are at least 13 years old.
