I FULLY support the Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill who wants to establish a hostel for those who have served in the forces in our conurbation of Dorset.

I did ask a general question in Full Council some time ago about the need for such a hostel and how many veterans were sleeping on our streets in Bournemouth and the reply was there were just a couple that were known of.

That is the very point - “ that were known of”. Perhaps many don’t want to be found by our staff?

As the present Bournemouth Town Centre Poppy Appeal Organiser I have copied my letter to the Dorset Fundraiser for the Royal British Legion Mr Ian Jarvis as it would be good to know how the Royal British Legion is helping our homeless veterans as millions of pounds is raised every year for the Poppy Appeal and other events during the year.

Our veterans have served their country and we need to be helping them when they fall on difficult times.
