PREDICTABLY, the Labour Party is against the proposal to redraw constituency boundaries – claiming that the changes are undemocratic.

On the contrary, it is the present arrangement that is undemocratic.

For years we have had the totally unfair situation where the number of voters in each constituency can vary tremendously.

Under the new proposals the average number of voters in each constituency will be approximately the same at around 70,000.

This electoral boundary reform is long overdue – and will make election results far more representative than they are under the present system.
