DURLEY Road Car Park is not, as Bournemouth council state, “poorly utilised”, it is full twice a day in term time as parents and carers deliver children to school and pick them up.

I’m not sure where the council think people are going to park when they have taken away this parking area and filled it with flats.

Yes, half the parents may live within half a mile of the school, but many busy parents, grandparents and carers may have to pick up from two or three schools so the idea people can just walk everywhere is just wishful thinking.

In reality, vehicles will be clogging up the already-crowded roads around the school, creating additional hazards for parents and children alike.

With modern construction techniques wouldn’t it be better to create underground parking exclusively for the flats while retaining as many public parking space as possible at ground level?

The council should be preserving the assets of the town for future generations, not selling off whatever they can for a one-off income boost.
