I WAS interested to read in the Echo that the West Central development’s official name will be BH2.

My hope though is that it will forever be known as the Legal and General Building to remind us exactly who it is who have imposed this monstrosity on us.

Legal and General had every opportunity to improve the building so it would have a much less intrusive impact on our beautiful, listed, Lower Gardens.

Indeed, they have been promising the council that they would do exactly that ever since planning permission was granted 10 years ago.

But in the end, all Legal and General were interested in was squeezing every short-term penny of profit out of their building rather than benefitting the town; a strategy that can only harm them in the long run.

The building is now in place and for the good of the town’s economy I wish all those businesses going into it well.

But deep down, I will always look at its hideous form from the gardens and shudder.
