IN RESPONSE to the letter from Mrs Isaacs (May 9), America did not enter the Second World War because of the attack on Pearl Harbour.

President Roosevelt’s declaration referred only to a state of war existing between the USA and Japan.

America found itself totally involved in a global conflict as a result of Hitler’s catastrophic decision to declare war on the US four days after the events at Pearl Harbour.

I do not agree that if no attack on its territory had taken place, Roosevelt would not at some time or other have entered the war.

This is, of course, something we shall never know.
