AS UKIP candidate in the Kinson South by-election, I feel urged to share my view on the proposed South East Dorset combined authority.

I am a firm believer in democracy, not just at the ballot booth, but all year round as an interactive process between the public and the politicians via letter writing, petitions and open debate.

In my opinion, the Tories have no mandate for a combined authority. It may well be correct that they have the majority of councillors in the four local authorities, but they were not voted in on the promise of combining all four councils.

I believe many people who voted Conservative in May were motivated by security and stability. Now it appears the Tories are going to give us the opposite to security and stability by bringing about a change the voters of South East Dorset never asked for.

I strongly believe the people should decide on whether all four councils combine or not. Therefore, a referendum should be held on the same day as the PCC elections or the EU Referendum.

Let the people decide!
