MY thanks and gratitude go out to all the radiographers at Poole Hospital in Varian one and two with their treatment to in excess of some 80 patients a day. These teams of professional staff put you at ease with their greetings and offers of advice throughout your daily treatment.

Day one, you think how will I get through seven-and-a-half weeks of this until, in the waiting room, conversations begin and you realise you are not alone. Everyday chat and banter continues with the usual happy crowd while tins of sweets are passed around. It is hard to believe this is a cancer treatment waiting room. Time soon passes, then you are called to sub waiting.

You are greeted by a talkative and cheerful team of radiographers that put you at ease while they prepare you for your treatment on either Varian one or two machines.

On the way through the waiting room, it’s all smiles and goodbyes until tomorrow. Then you think to yourself, I will soon ring that ‘end of treatment bell’ but reflect on missing the people and all the daily chat and banter. Where did those seven and a half weeks go?
