WITH reference to the article entitled “Mills tribute is in storage” (Daily Echo Thurs July 23), the tribute is a facsimile of the original marble plaque placed in the Lower Gardens in the 1970s and then vandalised.
Surely, with modern security aids such as CCTV, now is the time on the 50th anniversary of his death (July 25), to return it to the plaque’s original location in the Lower Gardens.
It was, I seem to remember, in the area where the “Tower of Light” now is, an iconic location as it faced across to the former Westover Ice Rink where Freddie won many of his early fights as a teenager in weekly boxing promotions.
Hopefully this suggestion is a no-brainer.
