RESPONDING to Tobias Ellwood’s claim to be “watching the pennies” on almost £90k a year, I would suggest he should now have more empathy with the majority of the public over whom his party governs who have been “watching the pennies” for quite a few years without any chance of a pay rise in the order now given to MPs.
Basically the banks caused the recent financial meltdown, which led the government of the day to bail them out with taxpayers’ money, and surprise surprise, the taxpayer is still paying.
No-one really expects to get rich working for a living, but a little extra in the pay/pension packet would never go amiss.
