I NOTE the letter in the Daily Echo on Monday 22 June 22 from Conservative councillor Peter Adams about the Living Wage motion coming to Poole’s Full Council meeting.
At the end of his letter He refers to the meeting of the Council Efficiency and Effectiveness Overview & Scrutiny Committee, and states that “this committee was chaired by a Lib Dem member and voted against by Lib Dem councillors”.
This is untrue and as the Lib Dem chair of that meeting I’m afraid I have to set the record straight. This meeting on 19 March 19, 2015 did indeed have five members of the committee vote against the motion to support the introduction of the Living Wage. The five votes against this motion were three Conservative (Cllrs Mrs Haines, Chandler and Mrs Stribley), one Poole People (Cllr Miss Carpenter) and one Ukip (Cllr Woodcock).
None of those who voted against this motion were Lib Dem councillors. though that is what Cllr Adams has said in the Echo, although I note Cllr Adams did not attend that he was not in attendance at this meeting.
CLLR DAVID BROWN
