CONOR Burns is a superb constituency MP who fought long and hard to ensure that the plans to develop and ruin the precious area of Talbot Heath were rejected.

Conor is now working equally hard to protect our coastline environment against the appalling desecration by the Navitus Bay wind farm scheme.

I am saddened and angry that his efforts are denigrated by misinformed correspondents (Jeff Williams, Ray Simpson, et al) who appear to support this money grabbing project.

It is well documented that sea based wind turbines such as proposed here are inefficient, hence the huge taxpayers’ subsidies that are needed to build and run the system.

Whilst we clearly need energy sources to replace fossil fuels, wave power (expensive but better than wind turbines), solar (more efficient) and the new generation of nuclear power (continuous power with now minimal impact on the environment) are considerably better and more cost efficient than the Navitus scheme.

Indeed, the only parties that will benefit from this project will be the (mainly French and Dutch) shareholders who reap the benefits of dividends mainly paid by UK taxpayers’ subsidies.

My circle of acquaintances is happily quite large and I cannot think of one of them who actually supports this scheme, so the claimed 87% of the local population who object seems entirely reasonable.

Like many of them I shall be writing to Amber Rudd, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, and to David Cameron, but to implore that this project is consigned, once and for all, into the dustbin of history.
