I READ with interest former Councillor Ron Whittaker’s accolade to the hard working Kinson and Redhill councillors who lost their seats at the local election.
His praise for fellow Independent Sue Levell and the work she has done for her residents was fully justified.
Similarly his former Labour colleagues Beryl Baxter and Dennis Gritt are well respected for their efforts on behalf of their constituents.
Why Dennis Gritt was not honoured with the mayoralty after 20 years’ service is verging on public disgrace.
It is a shame though that ex-Cllr Ron’s munificence has not spread to the sterling work done by Roger West in Redhill over the past 16 years.
Roger has worked tirelessly in opposing a huge Conservative majority, often alone, with little or no help from the other opposition councillors.
Despite life-changing surgery 18 months ago, a time when many would have sat out their recuperation, he continued to speak up for, and represent his constituents, irrespective of their party allegiance. A very courageous man.
