MAY 7 – election day – is approaching fast and I am sure most of us are receiving contact from the relevant groups.
On Monday I was contacted twice, firstly from one of the major parties in the form of a polite and personal letter, nothing heavy but a very pleasant way to introduce themselves.
The second contact was a not so pleasant, insulting attack on potential non-voters.
Words such as ‘pitiful’, ‘ineffective’, ‘feeble’ and ‘indistinguishable from total apathy’ were just a few that were contained in a very long and somewhat boring dialogue.
The majority of non-voters I have come across are far from being lazy, can’t-be-bothered people.
They just cannot see anyone worthy of their vote.
Coincidentally, on Tuesday one of the TV morning news programmes covered the potential non-voters issue and those that were asked came up with exactly the same reason.
So if you are looking to change the minds of this group of people, perhaps insults are not the way to go.
