WE were pleased to read Councillor Mike Greene’s positive letter concerning Horseshoe Common and annoyed at the negative carping by some residents who do not seem to appreciate how fortunate they are to live in Bournemouth.

Although we have had local connections for some years we only moved here permanently four years ago and are still amazed at the steady improvements in the borough despite a difficult financial climate.

Yes, it is good to see proper student accommodation being constructed freeing up much needed family housing and we have further education to be proud of at all levels.

Then there are all the new hotels being built meaning conference and holiday trade with all the employment that brings.

There is the continuous improvement of the seafront with the removal of the out of date Imax.

We look forward to the new Pier Approach and the Penguin House later this year and the new facilities at Durley Chine.

The Triangle is now an interesting diverse area greatly improved from how we remember it.

Finally there are mundane but important issues, the lovely green spaces, potholes get filled, street lights are improved, streets get swept and refuse is disposed of in an environmentally sustainable way.

Bournemouth is a great place to be and we should all celebrate how lucky we are.
