I AM staggered by the level of ignorance and panic displayed by the objection letters regarding the Navitus Bay wind farm such as the one from Mr Fyffe (Letters, February 26).
The noise level of a wind farm is regarded as the same as an A-road, so if the wind farm is 10 miles from you, the noise level is the same as an A-road 10 miles away.
I was recently in Margate in Kent, and they have a massive wind farm a lot closer to their shore than the Navitus plan, and there was no perceptible noise at all.
Renewable energy is surely the way ahead and wind farms are a key part of that, along with solar arrays etc.
Whether you view the turbines and masts as an eyesore or not, putting them a good number of miles offshore is the best way to mitigate the effect.
The salt water corrosion issue is taken into account and I trust all sea users in that area (such as the Poole-Cherbourg ferry operators) have been consulted.
Rather than being NIMBYs, perhaps it’s time to support the wind farm, or should I start a campaign to rebuild and reopen Poole Power Station as our local energy supply?
