I MUST say it is very heart-warming to read the many letters printed thanking people for their help where they have assisted others who have become unwell or have fallen.

I’m sure those helpful people outweigh those that take an opposite stance on seeing someone in difficulty.

I say this because last week while walking my dog off-lead one evening, I became unwell with a Menieres attack, which was severe enough to put me almost on my knees.

There were two young adults nearby and I managed to get their attention through slightly slurred speech and asked if they could help me to a nearby bench as I was about to fall over.

I also explained my hearing was poor but good enough to understand their joy in referring to me as drunk (not their words) but the equivalent in their language.

They also found it amusing to chase my dog, who had already sensed my problem and was trying to stay by my side.

I’m sure they will be relieved to know I was only sitting on the floor by that tree for 20 minutes but to others who may take the same attitude, not everything is as it appears so perhaps weigh up the situation a little better before making assumptions.
