OVER the years, I often wondered why the council didn’t do something to brighten up or alleviate the grey concrete monotony of the Wessex Way underpass that cuts across Horseshoe Common.
A few weeks ago I noticed that its retaining walls had been covered with bright, colourful murals and unwisely thought that somebody in the council had had the imagination to do exactly what I thought the place required.
Not so.
A week later a truck load of council workers turned up and destroyed them with the traditional myopic attitude towards artistic talent that saw the destruction of the Winter Gardens as a centre of excellence for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
