I AM writing in response to the letter from Fred Worthy (Questions on Navitus Bay, 17 January) who said he would like to know where Christchurch council stands on the Navitus Bay proposal.
He asked ‘surely they must have a collective view on this?’ Indeed we do and we have made our position quite clear. Having held a public exhibition and conducted a survey via the pages of our Christchurch Courier magazine, the resounding view from our residents was against the proposals for the wind farm.
We subsequently debated the issue at a special council meeting where we stated that there were too many unknowns as to the effect of the wind farm on sea life, migrating birds, the sea bed, as well as the visual effect from Christchurch and the surrounding area.
At the meeting our members agreed to the proposal that the council makes a clear statement that it objects to the Navitus Bay development.
