I SEE all the arguments made by our local Tory MPs and Tory-run councils (Critics want fresh wind farm debate, 12 Jan) came to nought.

The inspector has now ruled that ‘the materiality of the change’ of the Navitus Plan B is not ‘of such a degree that it constitutes a new application’.

Of course, keeping a straight face with all this delicate argumentation is very difficult.

Bournemouth council invested some effort trying to argue that Plan B constituted material change that would require at least ‘approximately 21 months’ just to sort out new visitor surveys.

And because Plan B was smaller, Bournemouth council argued that people may feel Plan B was now too small, thus creating more opposition for the scheme.

Given how long Bournemouth council have been insisting there was hardly any support for the original scheme, that reasoning presumably couldn’t apply to many people.

The reality is that the opponents of Navitus do not want to show they flat oppose the smaller Plan B, or that they would oppose even one turbine if it was still in line of sight from the coast.

So instead of their straightforward response, we get all this oh-so delicate argumentation.
