I ATTENDED Parkstone Grammar school in the 1950s, and so I was thrilled to accept an invitation to attend their Senior Citizens Christmas party on the evening of December 11.

A group of residents and staff from Two Cedars residential care home were invited, as well as approximately 100 other local residents.

From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed by the students and greeted by the hand-bell ringers playing festive music.

Throughout the evening we were entertained by the choir and orchestra, conducted by Mr Barber, and we enjoyed singing some of the Christmas songs.

The students provides us with a delicious tea and mulled wine and later on Father Christmas arrived and gave everyone a present to take home.

This annual event is funded with money raised by the students over the past year.

I am sure that all those privileged to enjoy the occasion would like to join me in saying a sincere “thank you” to Mrs Beardsley, head of 6th Year, and all the staff and students involved, the office staff, dining room staff and drivers, for all their hard work in arranging such an enjoyable evening.

You all deserve a very happy Christmastime, as you gave so much joy and happiness to others.
