James Straight comments on the new Castle Lane West intersection with East Way and asks if anybody else had the same concerns as he has.

I can say he is not alone, as I have the same opinions as James.

I have spoken with councillors on this issue by e-mail with these same concerns I have also raised concerns about bus stops apparently morphing themselves into the middle of the traffic flow on the eastbound side of Castle Lane West – with the probability of buses at the stop in peak times effectively blocking traffic clearing the traffic lights from the East Way junction.

Also, people boarding the bus have to cross a designated cycle lane to get from the bus shelter to board the bus.

Suffice to say that they do not seem to be concerned with any of this as long as the pedestrians and cyclists are deemed safe.

Having lived in this area for nearly 40 years, I was not aware of any particular safety issue on this stretch of road, but see plenty of potential for accidents with the new layout.

It could be said that if everybody obeyed signs and rules, there would be no problem, but human nature being what it is, I can foresee plenty.
