WELL spotted by the lady who wrote about the pepperpot of cafes, eateries and pubs in Poole.

We always have a proud heritage of pubs, and with the obesity concern, it is no wonder all of the eateries survive.

Do people treat them like a pub-crawl, and try and eat their way around town by going into every one?

We go shopping, there’s a cafe, we go to a gardening centre, there’s a cafe, at B&Q, another cafe, Baker’s Arms car park always full etc.

But then TV blitzes us with a dozen or so ‘bake off's’ and cookery shows encouraging us to do-it-ourselves, but as noted above, we obviously just watch, and salivate.

People don’t take lunch boxes to work any more, there is always ‘a bun van’ or a caravan selling burgers on any and all industrial estates, a Costa coffee or a Starbucks in the high street, and a burger, chicken or sandwich bar not very far away.

As we passed the Baker’s Arms last Sunday, I said to my wife, ‘Kitchens won’t need an oven in the future, everyone will be eating out or getting a take-away.’
