REGARDING the closure of the Julia’s House shop in Ferndown, I wanted to express my gratitude (and I think those of many local people I have met in the shop) of the wonderful work the volunteers and manager of the shop have done through many years in raising money for Julia’s House.

At the same time, the shop has provided a meeting place for people where a friendly word – and that rare commodity these days – time – was given to those calling in.

The range of goods was amazing and I think it is a great shame it is closing.

It’s rare to find such a mixture of wonderful work being done – the recycling of items to sell for Julia’s House, providing items at low cost for some who could not afford a lot; providing friendship and conversation to those passing through. In the shop there was a book for people to leave comments in the last days (for the shop closed on Saturday) and these comments reveal a heart-warming centre, now lost to Ferndown.

Thank you Julia’s House – for all the work you do and for the wonderful volunteers who do it.
