WE read a lot about the malfunctioning of the Twin Sails Bridge in Poole. It is no wonder when even the advisory signs are confusing to say the least.
As a motorist the sign saying ‘bridge closed’ could mean it is actually open to allow vessels through or is it out of action, so don't bother queuing?
Why can’t it say ‘bridge raised’ when it is open for vessels but not vehicles and then ‘bridge down’ when permitting vehicles, the opposite if you are approaching by sea and ‘closed’ when it is being repaired?
The Grand Old Duke of York nursery rhyme comes to mind.
