On the night of Wednesday evening my wife gashed her knee while sailing when she slipped over in shallow water approaching the dinghy park at Mudeford Quay.
When we managed to return to base we realised that she needed it cleaning and a tetanus injection, so we rang NHS Direct and were directed to Royal Bournemouth Hospital emergency department.
Arriving at about 10.15pm, she was triaged and the sign showed a two-hour wait. The waiting time jumped first to three-and-a-half hours and then at 3am to five-and-a-half hours.
At this we decided to return home and try cleaning the gash ourselves as there was no other facility available.
The following morning a visit to the Lymington Minor Injuries Unit had the wound cleaned and the injection given. Does the Bournemouth Hospital Trust need to establish an MIU at Christchurch Hospital?
