LOOKING forward to our future energy requirements in an overcrowded island, probably cut off from Europe, we must seriously consider how we win the necessary power to keep the lights on.

I propose that Poole Harbour therefore at some stage must be sealed of at its entrance and drained out, and the tidal flow, which is twice daily be employed to generate a massive amount of electricity, to pump the excess water back and to pump the riverine stream of the Frome over Studland or Sandbanks would take a fraction of the generated power.

I have studied this for some time and I was previously working in the electrical industry at Bath Road, so have some knowledge of power supply.

Needless to add, wind farms will be urgently needed in Poole Bay and all along the Purbeck hill ridge.

If we run down nuclear power all this will certainly be needed, even with nuclear energy, it is likely these seemingly controversial alternative sources will be essential.

We must not be selfishly motivated by our property values and our private views in this area but must begin to think for the community needs of our future population, our descendents.
