THERE are not too many people looking forward to an 11 per cent pay rise.

But if the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority has its way, that’s the kind of increase our MPs could soon be enjoying.

Many MPs work very hard. But so do many people who don’t make anything like an MP’s current salary of £66,396.

We’re living in a time of austerity and it was the government who decided public sector pay should be frozen.

If they really want to take the money, MPs should explain why they are a special case when teachers, nurses, social workers and police are not.
