I WOULD like to reply to Littledown resident, Mr Tony Williams’s letter (Echo, November 12).

He is right when he says we have increasing problems caused by commuter parking here in Littledown, he is also correct that we were inundated in the summer with emails and phone calls the figures regarding response are also correct.

I have to take issue with the tone of the letter however.

I took almost all the phone calls, this occurred not because nobody else was available, but simply because my name appeared first on the list, similarly I received the majority of emails although my two ward colleagues also answered a number of them too.

I was happy to discuss each individual resident’s needs and fears and gave every call all the time it required.

Mr Williams is also correct in as much as it was hard to get all the people around the table but in the end we managed to have two out of three of us councillors, the portfolio holder and a number of officers.

We discussed our residents’ needs, wishes and fears and indeed as we were looking at one part of this complicated road issue in the ward, concluded that it would not be wise to zone those roads surveyed.

The councillor who was unable to join us at the meeting had specifically asked that we discuss Mr Williams’s road which we did and it was decided to relook at it, as it was causing particular difficulties.

Mr Williams, your councillors are far from burying our heads in the sand we are trying and in most cases succeeding in dealing with the problem.

Do not for one moment think, the problem of commuter parking is exclusive to Littledown, it is a town-wide challenge and one each councillor deals with regularly.

I know there are a number of people in Littledown who will today be as upset as I was by your letter. I am more than happy to meet with you, as I do with many of the residents that contact us, to talk through your particular problems and see how we can seek a solution.

Finally the properties surveyed are all being written to with the results of the survey, this is underway at present, as promised by us, when we started the process in the summer.

Cllr Lawrence Williams, Ward Councillor for Littledown and Iford
