DURING a brief walk with my elderly dog last Saturday morning I was surprised to meet a young man clearing litter in the rain from a wooded area within Meyrick Park at the end of St Augustine’s Road.
I asked him which organisation was responsible for organising the clearing of litter and to my surprise he explained that he had walked through the wood on several occasions and having noticed the litter he had felt compelled to do something about it.
I was very humbled by my meeting with the young man, mainly because I had wrongly assumed that he was carrying out imposed community service duties; he was on his own in the rain trying to improve our environment.
