THE Battle of Britain thanksgiving anniversary service held at the Priory Church in Christchurch – in conjunction with the local RAF association – was a wonderful occasion on Sunday.
Marvellous singing from the choir, the Salvation Army band was incredible and the final address from the Retired RAF Group Capt Reverend Cannon Hubble was uplifting and inspiring.
As the Cannon said: “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”
Fortunately, this country's history – and this beautiful area’s history – is littered with good, fine and brave men and women.
However, in terms of numbers attending I was surprised – and more than a little disappointed – that many people missed out.
Outside of the choir and band, clergy, mayor’s entourage and the military veterans, there can only have been around 50 members of the public present to show their gratitude to those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.
Lest we forget?
