AS a mere passenger on the W&D 50 service on Saturday afternoon I had plenty of time, twice, to see the chaos in Gervis Place.

The real heroes of the day were the bus inspectors and staff who worked hard to keep the bus traffic moving and still retain a sense of humour.

They seemed to be acting as railway signalmen, flight deck controllers and parking attendants rolled into one to say nothing of maintaining their cool under very trying conditions and dealing with passenger enquiries.

The Great Western Railway series currently on BBC2 showed staff coping with the chaos at Paddington Station.

Perhaps we should have a series on Life in Gervis Place?

The villains of the piece seem to be the kamikaze pedestrians who shoot out of gaps between buses without looking in either direction.

Possibly we can add a few taxi drivers to the list; one group in a convoy of three refused to give way under any circumstances. Why are taxis allowed to use this road?

I appreciate that there is no other way that they can reach the Exeter Road/Square rank going westwards but surely there are alternative routes in the opposite direction.

However much it costs, can we please have our original bus station back?
