CONGRATULATIONS to Bournemouth council for another fabulous air show – this year blessed with consistent sun. With my husband – we are lifetime Boscombe residents – we spent a pleasant couple of hours on Sunday afternoon sat opposite the iconic 1950s Boscombe Pier building.
It was good to see so many happy crowds soaking in the whole atmosphere, such a plus for the town.
One sadness, however, was to see the metal entrance gates to the pier itself firmly shut.
I couldn’t help thinking how great it would be to watch the show from there, also to have general access to the pier as it once was.
I understand there are significant structural problems, no doubt very expensive to repair, yet nearby is a hidden ‘white elephant’ reef that took up millions. Is there no way a fund could be started to restore the pier eventually?
