DON’T think that I am a moaning pensioner – I can assure you that I am not – but something that really makes me mad is the number of cyclists that ignore the ‘no cycling’ signs.

I walk along the prom most days and the 10am to 6pm notices are completely ignored by a lot of cyclists. I saw one stop by one of the notices, look at his watch (10.10am), get back on his bike and ride off. I have heard a lady tell her child: ‘It doesn’t matter, we don’t take any notice of that.’ What a thing to say. I don’t think that I have walked through Boscombe and not seen a cyclist riding with earphones plugged in, unaware of anyone around them. Market days in Boscombe the police presence is there, cyclists are stopped and talked to but after they push their bikes and think the police can’t see them, they get back on.

In the past three months I have seen four cyclists at traffic lights ride straight through them when on red. I always cringe and hope that they don’t get killed doing this stupid thing.

So come on cyclists, read the signs. They are there for your and our protection from serious injury.
