I AM sorry to see that previous correspondents are still complaining about the planters in Moordown. I did write and explain what was happening and as I said then, these things do not happen overnight. To get planters in place, and planted at an appropriate time, involves several departments of the council, timing and good weather. If anyone has any knowledge of gardening then they will know it is not an exact science and you cannot just stuff things in pots at anytime and hope they will survive.

Our parks department do a fabulous job around the town, with quite a small workforce, and we in Moordown have to take our turn. The project that we started back in the late winter has been on the go ever since and the culmination of that has started. The gro-bags are on the bus shelters, the first tree has been planted, other plants to be planted around it, and the rest of the trees will be planted very soon. The hanging baskets are ready to go up as soon as the new brackets have been installed. There is a great deal more to this sort of project than going out and planting a few flowers. In my last letter I also expressed the wish that residents would also be proactive where there has been littering. Our road sweepers cannot be everywhere at once. I would also like to point out that when myself and my two colleagues were elected, Moordown was completely neglected, covered in graffiti, potholes everywhere and back garden infill rampant. I think we can be justifiably proud of what we have achieved in making Moordown a better and more attractive place to live and having to wait a few weeks to have the tubs filled should not detract from that.
